Norlandsbanen of the Four Seasons in 10x

Bergensbanen Minute by Minute set a trend for a series of real-time railway ride recordings, performed by NRK staff.

In November of 2012, NRK Beta published a massive amount of video, the recording of the whole trip in 4 seasonal versions – spring, summer, autumn and winter! In addition, all four seasons were also published in a timestamp-synchronised edition, making it possible to create real-time compositions. The setup of the recording is explained on NRK Beta’s pages.

The camera recordings from the trip with Norlandsbanen were published by NRK under the Creative Commons BY-SA 3.0.

Here is what Wikipedia has to say about the railway line:

The Nordland Line – Nordlandsbanen is a 729-kilometer (453 mi) railway line between Trondheim and Bodø, Norway. It is the longest in Norway and lacks electrification. The route runs through Trøndelag and Nordland counties, carrying a combination of commuter, long-haul passenger and freight trains. From Trondheim Central Station to Steinkjer Station the line is most heavily used, with hourly services by the Trøndelag Commuter Rail. There are three branch lines—the Stavne–Leangen Line at Leangen Station, the Meråker Line at Hell Station and the Namsos Line at Grong Station.

Traditionally the Nordland Line was defined as running from Hell to Bodø, but the National Rail Administration has officially classified it as running from Trondheim Central Station to Bodø, a distance of 728 kilometers (452 mi). This makes it the longest railway line in Norway. It is single track, standard gauge, but not electrified.

The entire journey from Trondheim to Bodø takes 10 hours, but here we are going to take it over just 59 minutes at 10x the original speed! By using every 5th frame of the video, the timelapse footage is encoded at 50 frames per second for a smooth playback.
